This CPD course covers the essential, compulsory topics for Class 1 licence holders, with a strong focus on practical, real-world application in real estate and property management.

  • Running a compliant property business
A Class 1 real estate agent licence in NSW authorises the holder to sell, lease and manage real estate on behalf of clients, including negotiating transactions and collecting rents. Key aspects:

    • Only holders of a Class 1 licence can be appointed as the licensee in charge (LIC) of a property business (including sole traders).

    • A Class 1 licence holder may operate independently or be employed and appointed as LIC of an agency.

    • Class 1 agents must meet eligibility criteria (qualifications, experience, fit‑and‑proper person principles) and maintain current registration with NSW Fair Trading.

  • Buyers Agents
Both buyers’ agents and selling agents in NSW must operate under a real estate agent licence issued by NSW Fair Trading under the Property and Stock Agents Act 2002 and associated regulations. This licence authorises the holder to act in property transactions on behalf of clients.

  • Embedding supervision guidelines into agency
Equipping LIC’s with a clear understanding of the statutory responsibilities imposed by the Supervision Guidelines on Class 1 agents, and how those responsibilities must be operationalised across an agency, is critical to lawful and defensible practice in NSW.

  • Trust Account Management and Audit Readiness
Strengthening a Class 1 licensee’s understanding of statutory obligations relating to trust account management requires a clear link between the law, regulatory expectations, and day-to-day agency practice. The following guidance is structured to support compliance-focused training and operational leadership in NSW.

  • Selling Strata Properties
To strengthen knowledge of strata schemes in NSW, it is important to integrate the legal framework, structural components, and administrative processes that underpin the operation of these schemes. This ensures a clear understanding of the responsibilities of owners corporations, strata committees, and strata managing agents in maintaining compliance, governance, and effective management.

  • Professional Standards
Understand the professional standards expected of real estate agents, including ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability in all dealings. This topic highlights the importance of consumer protection, regulatory compliance, and maintaining professional competence. You’ll also learn how strong record-keeping, risk management, and consistent industry practices help build trust with clients, tenants, and the wider community.

1. Who is required to complete CPD training under NSW law?

Under the Property and Stock Agents Act 2002, all holders of a Class 1 or Class 2 licence and Assistant Agents (certificate of registration) in NSW must complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training each year to legally maintain their authority to practice.

The CPD year runs from 1 July to 30 June of the following year. This is a recent change—previously, it was March to March. CPD is no longer linked to your licence renewal date and must be completed within the designated CPD year.

Licensed Class 1 and Class 2 agents are required to complete 5 hours of CPD training each year. The training must cover compulsory topics relevant to the class of licence held, as determined by NSW Fair Trading.

CPD training must be delivered in one of the following interactive formats:

  • Face-to-face training with a maximum of 40 participants, or

  • Interactive webinar with a maximum of 25 participants
All training must include an assessment activity to verify participation and understanding.

CPD courses at Businessleaders Institute are developed and delivered by experienced industry professionals. The lead trainer is Bart Rando, a licensed Class 1 agent and solicitor. His sessions offer real-world insights, case analysis, and up-to-date knowledge of legislation and industry best practices.
